Welcome to Headstand!

This is an exciting time in the evolution of K-12 schools and we're thrilled to be a part of the change. Headstand is committed to integrating mind-body techniques and classroom tools that work for students and teachers. When students and teachers are clear and balanced, teaching is more effective and students become more learning-ready.

When my dear friend Kathleen introduced me to yoga concepts and practices nine years ago, I was a burnt-out, first-year teacher. I felt overworked and underpaid, and I was very seriously considering giving up my participation in the education world altogether. During yoga practice, I was finally able to unwind, and I managed to finish out the year on a note of contentment. Nothing other than the experience of relaxing and energizing when I needed it most could have sold me on yoga-years before, when I was a student athlete, I believed yoga was for ballerinas!

One goal we have at Headstand is to help everyone involved at the school level to reach individual and community goals. We believe in taking a deep breath to increase the oxygen in our brains, imagining our best performance before a big game, or affirming our commitment to excellence before testing! When stress levels are low, we know performance is up.

Those who contribute financially now take pride in establishing Headstand as a leader in yoga and wellness programming and can expect researched results in stress reduction and improved academic achievement. Headstand will launch in three schools rooted in low-income communities for the 2008-2009 school year. Help us provide the support these schools need!
