Innovative and standards-based curriculum
Headstand teachers are trained in the YogaEd curriculum, which meets state and national PE standards. Designed to lay the foundation for a lifetime of health and wellness, this highly successful program has been implemented in over 150 schools in 27 states, and is effectiveness-tested. The Program Evaluation and Research Collaborative (PERC) found that students who participated in YogaEd experienced improved self-esteem, physical fitness, and academic achievement.
The curriculum includes:
- K-8 Programs: A 36-week curriculum designed to help students learn how to move gracefully, breathe smoothly and deeply, and sustain their focus and concentration. Young students develop strength, flexibility, balance, mental clarity, and emotional stability.
- High School Programs: A 36-week curriculum that combines the science-based exploration of the body, mind, and self with the exercise system of yoga in order to support and enhance adolescents' physical, mental, emotional and social development.
- Tools for Teachers: A program that empowers schoolteachers-even those new to yoga-to instruct simple yoga-based exercises to their students. These techniques are designed for the classroom, require no extra space or equipment, and can help enhance focus, concentration, creativity, communication and discipline. Tools for Teachers is taught by certified Yoga Ed. Instructors in weekend workshops and staff development in-service programs.
